Walk Your Age with Aegis Therapies

Aegis developed this initiative to celebrate Active Aging Week
by motivating residents, patients and staff to become more
active.
This unique campaign was based on walking your age, or walking
the number of steps equivalent to the year you were born. For
instance, if you were born in 1938 you would walk 1,938 steps.
The inaugural, nationwide series of events, held in September
2009, was a huge success. Over 550 facilities participated, with
close to twenty thousand participants walking a whopping 50 million
steps, or 23,816 miles. Participants who were in wheelchairs or
otherwise unable to walk engaged in other physical activities. All
exercise during the event was measured and calculated to
approximate the number of steps "walked."
Aegis provided each participating facility with a special Walk
Your Age kit containing:
- Pedometers
- Posters
- Event instructions
- "Walk Fit for Seniors" audio CD developed by
nationally-recognized fitness and wellness expert Chris
Freytag.
Aegis plans to make Walk Your Age an annual event to help
reinforce the importance of physical activity in maintaining good
health and wellness.
