Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

Satoko C. has been a certified occupational therapy assistant with Aegis Therapies since 2008. She provides rehabilitative occupational therapy to patients with physical and mental impairments. She also monitors the amount of assistance that patients need with general mobility and with other activities
 

Always a person who thrives on interaction with others, Satoko has strong opinions on how to best provide excellent service to her patients and coworkers. “Be a team player,” she says, “be sensitive to other people’s feelings, be flexible and give 100 percent to your patients and coworkers.”
 

Her favorite experience so far involved a patient of hers with unmotivated and agitated behaviors and a negative family who was difficult to deal with at times. Instead of distancing herself, Satoko used her sense of humor to connect with her patient. Once the two shared some genuine laughs, the barrier between them fell, and their relationship improved instantly.
 

“She became very comfortable working with me,” said Satoko. “We made progress. She was one of my most memorable patients.”
