Erin S.
Staff Therapist
M.A., CCC-SLP
Although Erin is a relative newcomer to Aegis Therapies, her
year with the company as a speech-language pathologist has been a
great one. She has been a practicing SLP for two years, and in her
role with Aegis, Erin is responsible for assessing, diagnosing and
treating disorders of language, cognitive communication and
swallowing. Erin works in a skilled nursing facility that handles
many residents with Alzheimer's disease, and as a result she spends
a lot of time focusing on treating cognitive-linguistic
dysfunction, working on functional communication, attention,
memory, safety awareness and problem solving. "I work side by side
with the facility's RNA in our rehabilitative dining program where
we provide cueing to assist patients with self-feeding and
independence," Erin explains.
Erin appreciates all of the achievements her patients make, no
matter how small. "Every time a patient surprises me with progress,
they've made me feel rewarded," she says. "It's important to
celebrate small achievements as often as big achievements. When a
patient makes a connection and then applies it to their everyday
life, it's a huge success."
Being able to educate her patients is one of Erin's favorite
things about working for Aegis, along with the fact that she gets
to work with a team to figure out what is best for each individual.
"The key to providing excellent care is having a great
interdisciplinary team working together to create the best
environment for the patients and their families," Erin explains.
"What happens during therapy is only relevant if everyone involved
in that patient's care is invested in their success."
