Rehab Program Coordinator/Physical Therapist Assistant

Debra K. has been with Aegis Therapies since 2001, first as a team leader and then as a rehab program coordinator/physical therapist assistant. She has held the latter role since 2003. In this position, she provides treatment and care to her patients, manages rehab programs, attends Medicare meetings, trains and orients new staff, and helps her division manager with scheduling and staffing decisions.

She believes that to be successful in her field, one must have a “caring attitude towards everyone you come in contact with.” Also, she believes one must always take advantage of the wealth of knowledge around them, as well as the various opportunities that appear, whatever they may be.

“I work with a great group of coworkers who go out of there way to help whenever needed,” she says. “If I ever have a question or situation I am unsure how to handle, there is always someone to turn to. My position with Aegis also gives me the opportunity to grow not only as a clinician but as a leader. I am always challenged by new opportunities and responsibilities.”

One of her most rewarding professional experiences happened when she worked with a patient who entered her facility being totally dependent on care. With the help of Debra and her staff, this patient regained her mobility, underwent several months of intensive walk therapy, and managed to return home to live independently.

“She did not trust anyone when she came to us,” says Debra, “and after a week I gained her trust enough so that she would try anything I requested of her,” says Debra. “The relationship only blossomed from there, and she was so thankful that she still returns to visit.”
